Healing From the Inside Out
Chiropractic was born out of a fundamental truth....that the human body has the innate ability to heal itself. A major chiropractic principal is that healing comes from the inside out. Today, we are bombarded by messages telling us that healing comes from an external source. We have all come to a place where we are looking towards medications, surgery, and miracle supplements to achieve the allusive perfect health and forgetting about the incredible inborn healing potential all of us possess. In chiropractic we have a saying, "Expect a miracle". Over the past 30 years, I have witnessed hundreds of patients find a better life through the principals of chiropractic heath care. Many of these patients were ready to give up or simply resign to living in poor health for the rest of their lives. Usually with the help of a good friend or family member, they found their way to chiropractic. Following is an overview of the chiropractic principles I have believed, learned, taught, and shared over my 30 years in practice.
The first step towards perfect health is to STOP THE ABUSE. Today, we eat genetically modified foods, contaminated with pesticides and additives. Foods that are over-refined, over processed and high in sugars resulting in excessively high rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and a multiplicity of disorders that are preventable. As these disorders slowly manifest themselves, we look towards the external methods to treat these conditions, or more appropriately, the symptoms of these conditions. Unfortunately, the underlying root cause is rarely addressed. When given the opportunity, the human body can do incredible things. Food is the building blocks for repair and immune defense. Given the correct nutrients on a daily basis, the human body can heal and repair itself in a more effective way.
Through the years, it has been obvious to me that most of the health issues we face today are related to an excess of bad ( bad fats, sugar, pollution, pesticides, etc.) and a lack of good ( anti-oxidants, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, good fats, protein, exercise, relaxation-stress reduction, etc.). We have come to a place in our society where we are consistently looking outside ourselves for solutions, not realizing that improved nutrition and lifestyle modification will engage the self-healing aspects of the human body. The doorway to perfect health opens inward.
When I discuss improved nutrition and lifestyle modification, I am not talking about "designer nutrition" or fad diets. More appropriately, I am talking about simple substitutions to your daily diet to stimulate your body's natural ability to rejuvenate and heal and science based nutrition that can strengthen the self-healing capacities of your body. Also, the incredible benefits of proper exercise to stimulate self-healing and the power of stress reduction to improve your well-being.
This concept of wellness does not discard mainstream medicine. When our health weakens, medications and surgeries are necessary to save lives. However, learning about the root cause of illness and taking steps to improve the foundations of your health can be done, regardless of the stage of your health. Many times, the medications actually deplete vital nutrients that will manifest as another condition later on down the road. Time and time again, I have seen patients improve their health and reduce their need for medications, allowing them the opportunity to live a healthier and happier life.
The importance of spinal care plays a very significant role in achieving and maintaining a higher level of wellness. Chiropractic is a complete system of healthcare focused on restoring, preserving and optimizing health with natural means. The basic philosophy of chiropractic is that the body naturally seeks a proper balance among ALL systems of the body and that these systems are meant to work together. A second basic principal is that proper structure is necessary for proper function. If a structure is impaired by injury or stress, its function can be adversely affected. Thus, chiropractic care focuses on the integrity and health of the spine and its surrounding tissues as a means to enhance normal human function and health. Chiropractic philosophy appreciates the natural order of things and focuses on early intervention, proper treatment and the establishment of supportive health maintenance to include proper diet, exercise / activity, stress reduction and special care of the spine and human frame.
Today, we are living longer in chronic health than ever before. Advancements in medical procedures and pharmaceuticals are keeping us alive longer, but in a state of less than optimal health. Regardless of where you are with your personal health, begin a pro-active movement to change the things you have control over and to strengthen your body to defend and accept the things of which you have no control.
A program of healthy eating, regular activity / exercise, individualized supplementation and regular chiropractic adjustments will optimize your health and wellbeing in ways that you cannot imagine. All of our choices have long term consequences...good or bad.
