1. More on Mary Stock, RPh, CCN:

Hello, my name is Mary Stock. I am a pharmacist and a Certified Clinical Nutritionist. I received my pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in Michigan. In 1999, I did postgraduate studies in nutrition through the Certified Clinical Nutrition Board of Dallas, Texas. I became nationally certified and received my C.C.N. designation.
How can I help you? As a pharmacist, I see many people placed on multiple medications (also known as poiy pharmacy)’to treat only their symptoms. They take medication A, which has side effects, then to treat those side effects they take medication B, which has its own side effects and so on in a snowball effect. The bottom line is that standard medical care does not get to the cause of the problem. My goal is to help people so that they do not fall victim to poiy pharmacy. I help you do this by getting to the cause of the problem.
How do we get to the cause? The first thing is to fill out a health history questionnaire. This is an important tool that helps me gather information about you and point us in the right direction to start your health turnaround. Once the questionnaire is completed and returned to us, along with any recent blood work, we will set an appointment to discuss the best course of action. Before your appointment I will review your information. There may be additional testing needed, which we will make available, in order to thoroughly evaluate your situation. We will discuss this at our first meeting.
As an example, I would look at your current lifestyle habits, what you eat and any exercise you do. I have a computer program that analyzes your symptom history and blood chemistry to develop a supplement program individualized to your results. I also have a program called the “Food Pharmacy” that tailors an eating program to suit your specific needs.
You must remember that you did not get into this situation overnight. It took many years of unhealthy living to develop these issues. The greater number of symptoms you have and the length of time you have had them will determine the length of treatment. With a 3-6 month commitment you CAN turn your health around. It is never too late to start a new lifestyle program. You and I working as a team can help you achieve optimal health so that you can live longer with a better quality of life. Be proactive; don’t wait until you are “falling apart”.
Finally, referencing an article from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), March2004, they state that “Poor diet and physical inactivity may soon overtake tobacco as the leading cause of death” in the U.S. Don’t become a statistic of poor health. Let me help you live the healthy lifestyle you deserve.

2. Nutritional Counseling – Are you Ready?
Are you tired of the headaches, allergies, fatigue, pain and countless other symptoms you deal with frequently? Are you ready to feel better? Are you willing to do what it takes to feel better? You may think these are silly questions, however, you need to be able to answer them in order to benefit from nutritional counseling. We will be asking you questions about your life, what you eat, what medications or vitamins you take regularly, and what, if any, exercise you do on a regular basis. The answers to these questions along with your blood work will help us determine the changes necessary for you to feel better. It may mean that you need to change your eating, exercise and medication habits. This is where your readiness to make changes comes into play. If you can honestly answer that you are ready to do whatever it takes to feel better, nutritional counseling is the answer!
Nutritional counseling will help you find the cause of your symptoms and can balance your nutrition to help you feel better than you have in a long time. Modern medicine approaches treatments geared only to the symptoms, not to the cause of the symptoms. For instance, if you have an allergic reaction to something, instead of finding the cause of the allergy and eliminating it, modern medicine will give you a pill to treat the symptoms of itching and swelling.
Instead of suppressing your body’s natural functions, nutritional counseling can help you activate your body and help it function at its highest level. When your body is functioning at this level you will have more energy, less pain and an overall better quality of life!
