WHAT IS BioSETTM?

BioSETTM (Bioenergetic Sensitivity and Enzyme Therapy) is an innovative healing system which incorporates 21st century technology with acupressure, energy medicine and meridian therapy, immunology, enzyme therapy and nutrition to prevent and resolve chronic health conditions.

The BioSETTM system was developed by Dr. Ellen Cutler, D.C. with very successful results for resolution of many chronic health problems. The BioSETTM healing system consists of three essential components:

  1. Specific organ detoxification to enable drainage and purification of toxins from specific organ systems.
  2. Enzyme therapy using full spectrum plant enzymes for enhancing digestion, allowing proper nutrient absorption and a balanced immune system response.
  3. A non-invasive, safe and natural desensitization technique for the often permanent elimination of allergies and sensitivities.

WHAT IS THE SCIENTIFIC BASIS OF BioSETTM?

Biological Energetic Testing for Allergen Sensitivities

According to acupuncture theory our body has certain points in characteristic locations on the skin with a lower electrical resistance. These points are acupuncture points. Acupuncture meridians are characteristic pathways through which electromagnetic energy passes until the early 1950’s, the lower electrical resistance corresponding to acupuncture points and meridians was not accurately detectable by traditional western methods of testing. In 1953 a German physician, Reinhold Voll, discovered and developed a way to measure the electromagnetic energy changes at acupuncture points(1).

Acupuncture theory has long held that the electrical conductance of the body’s acupuncture points vary depending upon physiological change and disease processes. Voll’s development of an electrical device to measure these changes became known as Electroacupuncture According to Voll or EAV(2). Because these devices measure electrical changes at certain points on the skin, the devices have also become known as electrodermal screening devices or EDS(3).

Dr. Voll also discovered that an allergenic substance in a glass vial in contact with a person could influence the EAV measurements. He further discovered that if the allergenic substance was placed on a metal plate into the circuit between the person and the EAV device, there would be a change in the EAV reading. More current research substantiates this(4). Dr. you correctly postulated that EAV could not only detect the lower resistance at acupuncture points. but could also be used for diagnostic purposes to measure changes in biological electromagnetic energy corresponding to alterations in disease processes(5). Ongoing research has shown that the electrical activity changes of the acupuncture points demonstrate a change long before pathology appears in the cells and tissues(6).

The BioSETTM system of healing, with its own innovative software, uses a twenty-first century version of an EAV device to detect an individual’s electromagnetic energy responses for sensitivity to various allergens, as well as toxicity, nutritional inflammatory reactions, digestive incompetence and enzyme deficiency. The EAV evaluates blockages in electromagnetic current from nutrients, chemicals emotional imbalances and structural stress. The EAV measurements are also used to objectively measure desensitization of a person’s immune response to an allergen. Bioenergetic measurements of organ functions are obtained by measuring acupuncture meridians and electromagnetic energy signatures of various organs. Interestingly, many of the findings of bioenergetic testing correspond to findings of traditional laboratory and functional medicine tests.

Specific Organ Detoxification, Enhancing Drainage of Toxins with Homeopathy

Detoxification involves the conversion and excretion of toxic substances into non-toxic metabolites. This occurs primarily in the liver and in the intestines. There are two distinct phases of detoxification, commonly called Phase I and Phase II detoxification. These processes biochemically transform toxins into progressively more water-soluble, and therefore excretable, substances through a series of chemical reactions. The BioSETTM system uses homeopathic remedies to enhance detoxification and drainage of toxins for gentle detoxification without the uncomfortable side effects that sometimes accompany certain detoxification programs. Increasing water intake is advisable for enhanced detoxification as well.

Enzyme Therapy for Enhanced Digestion, Nutrient Absorption, and Balanced Immune Responses

Digestive enzymes are essential for the proper digestion, absorption and assimilation of nutrients. Digestion of foods begins upon entering the mouth, with an enzyme called ptyalin. Multiple other enzymes are secreted throughout the digestive and absorption and assimilation processes, all the way through the gut. The essential effect of enzymes is to speed up biochemical reactions and make the reactions occur more efficiently.

Supplemental enzymes assist in the pre-digestion of foods, decrease stress on digestive organs, improve nutrient absorption from foods eaten, and improve the movement of food through the gut for proper elimination of waste products. When used alone, the use of supplemental digestive enzymes can decrease the potential allergenic response of many foods. When used in conjunction with the other components, this key component of the BioSETTM system of healing helps produce the outstanding outcomes provided with BioSETTM.

Desensitization for Effective Elimination of Allergies and Sensitivities

The BioSETTM Desensitization Technique is used for any sensitivity a person is reacting to. While the patient is “connected” into a virtual electromagnetic circuit with the EAV and the allergen, the practitioner gently taps acupuncture points up and down the spine. This balancing of key acupuncture meridians and the balancing influence through the autonomic nervous system desensitizes the person’s body to the previous allergen. The complex physiologic and neurological mechanisms by which this occurs is beyond the scope of this article. Nevertheless, the successful clinical results of this procedure have been proven through thousands of patients over the course of the development of the BioSETTM system of healing.

WHAT TYPE OF HEALTH PRACTITIONER USES BioSETTM?

The scientific basis of BioSETTM is in the principles of acupuncture, a system of health established for a few thousand years. Additionally BioSETTM has scientific foundations in immunology, enzyme therapy, nutrition, chiropractic, and neurology. Because this desensitization system has relatively recently developed since the technology to objectively measure electromagnetic energy changes in acupuncture meridians, not many health care practitioners are yet certified in this system. However, because of the successful clinical outcomes, many open-minded traditionally trained allergy specialists who are looking for a more effective means of helping their patients are beginning to investigate and use this system. Additionally, many other medical professionals are beginning to seek assistance in problematic patients through this system. A warning however: Because BioSETTM has its scientific basis in modalities that are not traditionally taught in medical schools in the United States, many traditionally trained medical doctors may scoff at this system, even without any knowledge of or without thoroughly investigating the successful clinical outcomes.

Nevertheless, many different types of health practitioners are beginning to be trained in BioSETTM, including acupuncturists, chiropractors, medical doctors, clinical nutritionists, and dentists. When seeking a practitioner who states they use the BioSETTM system, carefully inquire as to the postgraduate training that they have had specifically in BioSETTM.

WHAT ABOUT PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES AND RECOMMENDED SUPPLEMENTS BEING USED WITH THIS METHOD?

“Will I have to stop my prescription medications when undergoing BioSETTM?” No! Any properly trained practitioner of this system will not recommend you stop taking your prescription medications without referral to your prescribing physician. Additionally, any supplements you have been recommended to use by another health professional may be continued. Evaluation of the individual biocompatibility and effectiveness of a supplement or medication will be addressed as part of the bioenergetic assessment. However, in many instances, as desensitization to allergic and improper immune responses occur, you may be advised to check with your doctor to decrease the dosage or be found to no longer require the use of a particular medication. Likewise, supplement use will be evaluated and the need for certain supplements may be altered while undergoing BioSETTM.

HOW IS BioSETTM PERFORMED?

At the initial evaluation, a 6-hour fast prior to the appointment is required to perform a fasting enzyme evaluation. This is to measure digestive and metabolic deficiencies, and evaluate the need for specific enzyme supplementation. Also during the initial evaluation, specific imbalances in acupuncture meridians are detected via EAV. These meridians correspond to different organs. If an imbalance is detected, a homeopathic remedy or enzyme is given to balance the meridian. Finally at the initial evaluation, testing for specific sensitivities to amino acids, minerals, vitamins, sugars, viruses, molds, parasites, and numerous foods is performed. A specific sensitivity can be “cleared” on the initial visit. Dietary and healthy lifestyle recommendations may be given on the initial visit or on the follow-up visit. The initial evaluation takes about 90 minutes.

At each follow-up visit, a specific sensitivity to a group of allergens can be eliminated. Additional allergen sensitivities can be eliminated as frequently as every 2 hours thereafter. At each follow-up visit, additional sensitivities to various food and environmental allergens are uncovered and eliminated. No avoidance period is required after a BioSETTM desensitization. You can be exposed to the previous allergen, and in most cases, you will not get an allergic response. Each follow-up desensitization takes about 30 minutes.

HOW MANY BioSETTM DESENSITIZATIONS ARE REQUIRED?

After the initial evaluation, sensitivity to a specific group of allergens can be cleared within 1 visit with significant symptom reduction. However for chronic health challenges and specific desensitization protocols, deeper levels of detoxification and energy balancing are recommended. A certified BioSETTM practitioner is well versed in these specific protocols. Depending on the health of the individual and the state of immune system imbalances, detoxification deficits and number of sensitivities detected, the number of recommended allergy desensitizations vary greatly. Some people may require only a few while others may require 6 to 12 sessions to eliminate allergic responses to multiple allergens. Furthermore, some people with many health challenges and sensitivities, may require significantly more.

Fortunately, there tends to be a cumulative effect with each desensitization. During each successive session other sensitivities are often uncovered and relieved or eliminated. In certain instances, where it is necessary to perform desensitization for immediate, acute problems, short term desensitization (which eliminates allergies for between 2 weeks to 2 years) can be performed. However for best long-term results (essentially permanent allergy elimination), the proven BioSETTM protocols should be followed.

The Hazards of Hidden Food Allergies

Are you one of the more than ninety million Americans suffering from allergies? Or are you one of those unaware that they have allergies because the health symptoms seem totally unrelated? Typically we think of allergies as the cause of sniffles and sneezes, even sinus conditions and headaches. Yet there are many other conditions we rarely associate with allergies, ranging from hyperactivity to chronic fatigue. In fact, fatigue is one of the main characteristics of allergies. Other disorders linked to allergies include many types of chronic skin conditions, digestive illness, and mood disorders, including depression.
Most people who realize that allergies are causing their symptoms view them as something they must learn to live with. They usually hold little hope for recovery, beyond temporary relief through medication. This resignation reflects the widespread belief that allergies are incurable. Yet over the past twenty years, I have successfully treated thousands of sufferers. If you suspect that allergies are a factor in your health, I offer encouragement. Although allergies are rarely life-threatening, they place a drain on the immune system as a constant source of stress. Allergic reactions usually cause irritation. At that point, the damage may be irreversible. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, even simple movements become painful, and the joints and bones eventually distort. Both arthritis and asthma are often linked to allergies and related inflammation. They represent only two examples of the dangerous effects of hidden allergies.

You may have tried to relieve your symptoms with medications that can have unpleasant side effects, including mood swings, headaches, or fluid retention. You may experience even more serious long-term consequences, such as suppression of the immune system or osteoporosis. A small number of allergy patients develop so many sensitivities that they become virtual shut-ins, unable to function in normal society. Treatment may be expensive, complex, and inconvenient. The Development of BioSETTM

The BioSet system was developed through years of observation in clinical practice and ongoing evaluation of a wide range of allergy therapies. It also grew out of my own search for healing and transformation. In addition, the therapies incorporate the experience of other health care professionals and patients. I personally suffered from food allergies for many years. Throughout my education in chiropractic college and years of post graduate training, I explored every reasonable treatment option. After studying enzyme therapy with the respected naturopathic physician Bernard Jensen, I began taking digestive enzymes. Many of my symptoms disappeared, yet I still felt fatigued and depressed after eating certain foods. Once I developed my own practice, I continued to explore methods and products that might alleviate my allergies and those of my patients.
I had a major breakthrough when I learned of the work of an acupuncturist who had discovered a technique for evaluating and treating allergies. I observed her work and found her success rate impressive. Soon I began referring my most difficult patients to her. One of the first was a woman who suffered from severe chronic nasal congestion and shortness of breath. Her evaluation indicated allergies to dust, mold, pollen, cat dander, certain vitamins, and some fruits and vegetables. After a series of acupuncture treatments for these allergens, the patient was completely free of her symptoms. I was so impressed that I began referring more patients to the acupuncturist, and I also went for treatment myself. Initially she treated me for allergies to various food groups, including egg whites, milk, and sugar. I was especially sensitive to sugar, which caused me headaches and depression. After treatment, I no longer reacted negatively to sugar. Not only was I symptom-free, but my cravings for sweets had vanished as well. I also felt a tremendous increase in energy. The acupuncturist continued treating me for other food allergies, including grains and dairy products. By the time the treatments were completed, I no longer had to limit my food intake in any way. I was allergy-free. I began to integrate these methods into my clinical practice and, over time, evolved an advanced system of healing. This approach incorporates acupressure and traditional Chinese medicine with applied immunology and state-of-the-art nutrition. Equally important, this simple and effective system provides tools that anyone can use to maintain optimal health.
